Marvin Berglas added another feather to his cap by co starring in the Dunninger Show at the Mermaid Theatre as part of the International Magic Week.
Marvin played celebrity announcer Glenn Riggs in the recreation of the Dunninger Show…a 40s radio broadcast of the famous US mentalist .
The cast also comprised Joe Atmore, Matt Field and celebrity judges Sophie Aldred from Doctor Who and Frankie from Dancing on Ice.
Following some recent high profile appearances at the Dorchester, Harrods, The Portman and Scott’s of Mayfair, this week Marvin will be doing a PA for the opening of the new Hamleys store in Cardiff on Wednesday 13th November 6-8pm. On Friday 16th November he will appear at the Mermaid Theatre in the Dunninger Show playing the part of the Announcer in the special recreation of an American Radio Show Broadcast from the 40′s.
The following day he will performing at the Emirates Stadium for the VIPS and sponsors for the Arsenal v Tottenham North London derby . He heads an award winning team that includes Rick Merrill from the US making his debut at Arsenal, who won the Close Up competition at Fism in 2009.
That evening Marvin performs at a private event at Clivedon for a special night celebration.The following day Marvin will attend with his father, the special presentation of the annual David Berglas award at International Magic.
Marvin hosted a wonderful night at Frederick’s in Camden Passage to celebrate in style for the 25th Anniversary of Marvin’s Magic.
The exclusive guest list comprised close friends and family of Marvin’s Magic including the entire team from MM HQ, Marvin’s West End demo team from Hamleys and Harrods plus a selection of past legends from Marvin’s past.
There was tremendous atmosphere throughout the night with great entertainment plus a few surprises.
After Marvin welcomed everyone past demonstrator, Pete Wardell, now the only magician to have won The Magic Circle Close Up and Stage Magician of the Year mesmerised everyone with his award winning Cups and Balls act.
Later another award winning act from Freaky Body Illusionist – Justin Monehen. Marvin then presented several awards including introducing his wonderful personal assistants through the years – Noreen, Claire,Lorraine and Lisa, who all received special bouquets culminating in a Silver Stylus presentation complete with precious stones to Lorraine Rosi who has worked closely with Marvin for 15 years.
Then up on stage were Marvin’s key managers, past and present. Marc Paul, Hamid Moosavi, James Green, Quentin Johns and current manager Tom Hudson.
They all received a great reception from everyone and from Marvin, the rare and last of the Limited Edition sets produced for the Millennium.
The final and most popular presentation was to loyal Bruce Smith who has been with Marvin since 1987. He is now the Demonstration training manager and has influenced so many great demonstrators over the years. He received a solid silver set of gem paddles complete with real gems as a special a memento and appreciation of all he has done with Marvin’s Magic. He was visited by Michael Jackson many times over he years and along with Marvin performed privately behind the locked after hour doors at Hamleys while the world’s press and thousands of fans were left screaming outside. It was an exciting period for the company which received great media attention including Jacko accepting Vice President of the Marvin’s Magic Club. As a special surprise to Bruce a superb Michael Jackson tribute act (demonstrator Danny Oliver) performed a medley of favourites to everyone’s delight.
The cake or should we say cakes were real talking points. Especially made by the Yummy Cake Company they featured perfect replicas in lemon and chocolate sponge of Marvin’s box sets over the years plus a large anniversary logo cake.
Marvin orchestrated a Lights from Anywhere birthday candles cosmic Mexican Wave whilst everyone magically blew out the Lights! While the cake was being cut there was a further surprise while Marvin’s friend from X Factor fame the brilliant Andy Abraham got the party to high energy with his fabulous renditions of Can’t Take My Eyes off You, Ain’t No Stopping Us Now and I Found Lovin.
Everyone left with fond memories of a great time and photos and momentous covering the story so far. Here’s to the next chapter!
Marvin joined a host of celebrities in Portugal to entertain at the Ian Wright Golf Classic on behalf of the Willow Foundation.
Amongst the audience were Bob Wilson, David Seaman, Jodie Kidd, Ian Wright, Frank McClintock,George Graham, DJ Spoony and Francis Lee.
A good time was had by all whilst raising funds for a great cause.
Marvin Berglas attended the Essential Magic Conference in Portugal.
It is a specially invited exclusive gathering of magicians from around the world to learn, share and collaborate.
At EMC 2011 Marvin was a speaker. The Conference is beamed live to magicians in 74 countries .
This year Marvin was involved behind the scenes and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being amongst the elite in magic.
Says Marvin ” It was like being in celebrity Big Brother! You eat, sleep, learn, collaborate and perform with 33 of the best in the world.
It made me fall in love with magic all over again and was a real privelege to be invited again with my father David Berglas . My highlights – besides spending time with many magical heroes and friends was being asked to interview new British sensation, Dynamo and the final surprise emotional send off , where we were all serenaded in the moonlight by a 100 strong choir and orchestra at the finish..as this coincided with my Father’s birthday….it was very emotional!”.
Amongst the magicians were David Blaine, Derren Brown, Paul Daniels and Dynamo. Also various great magicians from Argentina, USA, Spain, Japan and Germany.
Following Marvin’s recent media tour, he caught up with the Grand Prix winners of FISM…the equivalent of the Olympics of magic.
Marvin commented that the competition between the elite was incredibly high and a special congratulations go to Yu Ho Jin from Korea and Yann Frische from France.
Check out the wonderful new Toy Kingdom at Harrods where Marvin’s Magic have a prominent area in the exciting new Circus themed Toy room on the third Floor. Marvin, himself will be making a special appearance at the VIP and celebrity launch on July 22nd between 10-11am!
